The Sea Forum brings the best Mediterranean chefs to Cambrils

23/09/2008

Chefs from around the Mediterranean will be gathering in Cambrils from 26th to 28th October to participate in the Sea Forum, a meeting point for gourmets, foodies, food producers and culinary professionals from kitchens throughout the Mediterranean.

The programme for the Sea Forum, which will be sponsored by the City Council and Tourism Board of Cambrils and organised by Pep Palau, von Arend & Associats, will target two different publics. Sunday the 26th will see a range of activities for enthusiasts of fine dining and fine wines in general, whilst the 27th and 28th will be dedicated to professional workshops featuring chefs, oenologists and sommeliers from all around the Mediterranean, including Joan Bosch, Pedro Cabanillas, Joan Miquel Canals, Xosé Cannas, Xavier Ferraté, Jean-Luc Figueras, Vicente Patiño, Paco Pérez, Luigi Pomata and Ricardo Sanz, among others.

The sessions will take place simultaneously in different areas of a tent set up by the sea. La Cuina (The Kitchen) will be used for the master classes, i.e., live cooking demonstrations by renowned speakers. It will likewise be used for the dialogues hosted by the Mediterranean Gastronomic Observatory, in which participants will reflect on developments in and challenges for the sector. The Aula del Gust (Tasting Classroom), will be used for guided tastings of original, premium foodstuffs from both the land and the sea, accompanied by world-class wines and cavas.

In addition to the scheduled activities, the Sea Forum will also include an area for exhibitors, the Sea Market. This area will serve as an ideal showcase for producers of singular products made with sea and, as an added bonus, land ingredients in accordance with artisanal and sustainable practices. Most of the exhibitors are from the geographical region of the Mediterranean and will thus allow professional attendees to discover the full range of products available in the region.

Tradition, sustainability and gastronomic excellence are the Sea Market's core values, and it will place special emphasis on producers who make research and development (R&D) an important part of their job.

Guest region

The guest region in this year's edition will be Galicia. This will pave the way for an intriguing pairing of the Mediterranean with the Atlantic, in which Cambrils, and by extension the province of Tarragona, will represent the Mediterranean, whilst Galicia, with its rich variety of seafood, will represent the Atlantic.
